Swimming with new dreadlocks

Yes, you can swim with new dreadlocks! However, be aware that your dreads, especially if they're brand new, may loosen a little, especially at the ends. But don't panic—with a little extra care, this is easily fixed. After swimming, you can backcomb your dreadlocks and roll them with your palm, especially if they're wet. Once they're completely dry, you can let them grow out again.

In the initial stages, swimming in chlorinated or salt water can even help tighten dreadlocks. Sun exposure after swimming will enhance the effect. However, don't forget to rinse your scalp thoroughly after swimming.

Chlorine and salt water: advantages and disadvantages

While chlorine and salt water can strengthen your dreadlocks, they can also be extremely drying. Avoid prolonged exposure to these types of water. If you swim in chlorinated or salt water, make sure to take extra care of your dreadlocks afterward. Use a clarifying shampoo and finish with a conditioning oil to keep your dreadlocks moisturized and soft.
